My Favorite Cover

PEOPLE, April 11, 2011: "Elizabeth Taylor: Farewell to a Legend"
(Photograph by Philippe Halsman)
Time and again, readers turn to People for our take on the defining moments in pop culture—and this year, a major story was the death of one of the greatest movie stars of all time, Elizabeth Taylor. The iconic shot selected for the cover from the archives of famed photographer Philippe Halsman, taken when Taylor was just 16 years old, reminded fans of the beauty and grace that would often become overshadowed by her much-documented, tumultuous personal life. With few words needed, thisPeople cover provided a truly worthy farewell to a legend.

Critique:

The lighting and color over her face and body is perfect. It lights up her face and adds shadows to the indents in her body shape. The background is plain which draws more focus to her. The cover lines don't cover her up and even the title of the magazine is behind the image of her, really brings her into importance. This portrait shows a softness to her which correlates with the title "Farewell to Legend". The look on her face is almost solemn which also ties into the title. All around, I think this was a fantastic portrait of Elizabeth Taylor.

Year in Review: 2013

Best Photos 2013:

I love this photo because this father's boredom and fun with his newborn. The composure is perfect for seeing both faces. The lighting isn't perfect though.

This photo was absolutely sweet! Protesters against the government hand security guards roses. The composure is perfect. Shooting through the barb wire was a great idea.

This photo is really sharp and I love all the action and colors. Islamic activists torched police cars and bikes. The composition by shooting from the side of the cars was perfect to see the action.

Favorites:

Best song
Fall Out Boy came back with their album "Save Rock and Roll"

Best Movie
"We're The Millers" was so damn hilarious. Even my mom thought so.

Biggest Story
Pope Francis came into view as a peace offering idol.

Important Person
The entire world celebrated the life of Nelson Mandela when he passed.

Biggest Entertainment
I don't think anyone can deny Miley was huge in publicity this year.

My Holiday and Hopes for 2014:

This Christmas break I spent the entire time surrounded by my family(that can be good and bad, but mostly good). My resolutions is to become a stronger person.  I look forward to my senior year and getting my license.
